Yesterday would have been Mason's first birthday. I tried to make the enjoyable despite the fact that there was a definite sad cloud hanging over us during the day. Mark and I bought a Bradford Pear tree to plant in the front yard for Mason. So at 5:30, we all gathered around the newly planted tree, sang "Happy Birthday, Mason" and released balloons with messages to him. My hope was to help everyone as they move through this grieving process at their own pace. Emily was delighted to be able to send something to her baby Mason. After the releasing of the balloons, we all went inside to enjoy cupcakes.
After our birthday party for Mason, we prepared ourselves for trick or treating. Emily thoroughly enjoyed herself. I know that is hard for everyone to believe. 
Solon reluctantly dressed up as Woody. Proudly, displaying his "gun pocket". He did go to three houses, but protested at the rest. He preferred to stay in the van with Nannie Nannie. Emily was all about getting to the house to get more candy.

Overall, it was a day filled with tears, remembrance, laughter, family and friends. We all miss Mason dearly and truly wish that he was here. But I know that he is being rocked by his great grandmothers and watching over us in all that we do.
